Your adventure starts even when you arrive – from the Alpine centre the summit cable car takes you high above the glacier to the mountain station that sits beneath the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn like an eyrie. Gipfelwelt 3000 is open year-round and entry is free for skiers who have a ski pass.

'TOP OF SALZBURG'

Als erster Halt in der Gipfelwelt 3000 bietet sich die scheinbar frei 50 Meter über dem Gletscher schwebende Panorama-Plattform „Top of Salzburg“ an. Den eindrucksvollen Blick in die Hohen Tauern und weit über die gewaltigsten Alpengipfel kann man wirklich nur am Kitzsteinhorn erleben: Von der Zugspitze über den Wilden Kaiser und den Watzmann bis zum Großvenediger sind hier die Höchsten unter sich.

National Park Gallery: through the maountain to the panorama platform.

Another highlight of Gipfelwelt 3000 is the National Park Gallery panorama platform. At the end of a 360 metre cave, it just out defiantly above the almost vertical incline of the southern flanks of the Kitzsteinhorn and opens up exceptional perspectives to the unspoilt realm of the Hohe Tauern National Park and Austria's hightest mountains. No other point in this altitude location is as easily accessible and also provides such insights into the largest conservation area in the Alps, and to the highest summits in Austria, including the Großglockner (3798m), Großvenediger (3662m) and the Hocheiser (3206 m). The walk-in vaults of this mysteriously lit cave provide exciting information at the info points on topics including technology, permafrost, Tauern crystals, Tauern gold and how the Alps came about. This high Alpine adventure-packed realm came about thanks to close colaboration between Haus der Natur in Salzburg and the Hohe Tauern National Park.

'CINEMA 3000': NATURAL ADVENTURE IN WIDE SCREEN FORMAT

'Cinema 3000' provides a very special cinema highlight. The 10 minute long, breath-taking nature film, 'Kitzsteinhorn: THE NATURE' by Romy-Preisträger Michael Schlamberger whisks the viewer off into the magical natural surroundings in the Hohe Tauern National Park, on an eight metre wide screen.

Guided tours with national park rangers

Gipfelwelt 3000 during a free guided tour with a National Park ranger guests get deep insights and fascinating insights into the Hohe Tauern National Park - from Salzburg's highest panorama platform 'Top of Salzburg', the ranger provides two guided tours a day in the summer from 15.5.-1.7.2019 and daily, except Tuesday, from 2.7. - 8.9.2019 . In the winter there are tours once a week from 31.12.2019 - 14.4.2020 In the National Park Gallery, located in the mysterious interior of the mountain. The highlight is a visit to the impressive panorama platform – the Nationalpark Gallery.

Summit restaurant: Delectation at 3029 metres

Anyone who hasn't had enough of the many different impressions provided by Gipfelwelt 3000, can look forward to a meal in the Summit Restaurant. In the highest restaurant in Salzburg, which seats 150, high above the glacier the extent of the panorama really does open up hearts and minds, while the top-notch cuisine, with delcious meals, indulges. Under the maxim 'DELECTATION', even toque-awarded chefs wield their wooden spoons here twice in the year.

Snow-packed adventure in the summer too

Thanks to its location in the midst of a glacier region, Gipfelwelt 3000 also provides an unforgettable snow-packed adventure in the summer too. The ski area on the glacier is open almost throughout the year, from the end of September until mid-July. Yet even in the height of summer those of you who have a hankering for snow get to enjoy the glistening white on the Kitzsteinhorn. ICE ARENA, with its snow slide runs and its snow strand, is a unique adventure-packed realm for all the family!

Hohe Tauern National Park – the biggest national park in the alps

The Kitzsteinhorn is located right at the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park. It extends all the way up to the 3798 m Großglockner and spanning over 1800 km² is the biggest National Park in the Alps. The route from the valley up to the glacier-capped summit region is like a journey into the Arctic, with all the climatic zones between Central Europe and the polar region. The National Park is like a European 'Noah's Ark' – a kingdom of animals, plants and rocks. Since 2006 the Hohe Tauern Natoinal Park has been internationally recognised by the IUCN. The Kitzsteinhorn works closely with the Hohe Tauern National Park. In 2011 this cooperation and the exemplary, sustainable, innovative natural  management was rewarded with a great distinction. At the XIth Alpine Conference, the Kitzsteinhorn received the 'pro natura – pro ski AWARD'.
