City of Salzburg

Around an hour's drive (90 km) from the Barbarahof is the world-famous festival city of Salzburg and its cultural sights. Salzburg can look back upon a long, action-packed and splendid history. Built on Celtic and Roman ruins of Iuvavum, Salzburg became a propserous city in particular thanks to trade in salt 'Salz' – from which its name is derived - ('Hall'), and was set up as a superb seat of royal residency by Wolf Dietrich and his archiepiscopal successors.

The Old Town area in particularm with its lovingly designed Getreidegasse, Mozart's birthhouse and Hellbrunn and Leopoldskron palaces, bear witness today of a long tradition of culture. Salzburg exudes a very special style in every respect, whether it is the culture, the world-famous Salzburg Festival, its many museums and even the special selction of sophisticated boutiques, small street cafés, luxurious and international restaurants. Salzburg is certainly worth visiting.
